Sunday Excursions

Geology of the Twin Cities – Minnesota Geological Survey Director Anthony (Tony) Runkel has agreed to lead a group on a short tour of the geologic history of the Twin Cities Area. This will be in two vans, and will include about four stops. Estimated time will be about three hours. The group will leave from Tate Hall at around 8am. Total number of participants will be limited to 16, so sign up early! A great opportunity to learn more about what’s under the Twin Cities from a leading expert. Sign up for this tour can be completed using this form.

Guided Tour of the Continental Scientific Drilling Facility – The amazing staff of the Continental Drilling Facility (CSD – formerly known as LacCore) has agreed to do tours of their facilities in Tate Hall. They will have some example cores on display, and will take groups of ten around their facilities to show what all is available. The CSD is an NSF funded coring facility that can collect geologic ‘rock’ cores and sediment ‘lake’ cores (among many capabilities), and have the facilities for core analyses, processing, and storage. If you are interested in learning about coring and if it might be something you want to include in your research moving forward, this is a great opportunity to talk to the experts and have all your questions answered in person! Tours will begin around 8am and will last about 30 minutes. They can accommodate up to 40 people at a time, but they are willing to do as many tours as needed. Please let us know if you’re interested in attending this by filling out our Sunday Excursion form.
